The Fortress Tokunoshima Island

Since my American friend will visit Osaka this autumn, I'm making a plan to visit now.
I'm thinking I have to prepare for it  in order to explain about what to be exhibited and what backgrounds there were. 

Every time I asked him, he just answered it was up to me to decide the plan...
While I should take his hobbies and interests into consideration, I'll do it so that my family can enjoy it.

This is the second time to meet each other.
Last autumn, we went sightseeing for 3 days, in Osaka, Nara and Kyoto.

In Osaka, the Osaka castle, Kuromon Market Street and Abeno Harukas. And then, we made him eat something weird at a Izakaya restaurant. Haha.

 In Nara, the Todaiji temple, Nara park and we made pottery. He made a small cup for sake named "ochoko" and a plate for good food partners of sake.

And in Kyoto, only the Kinkakuji temple because we didn't have much time on the 3rd day.

Then, this year, I made a plan for 2 of 3 days.

On the first day, Dotonbori, Minami, America-Mura in the morning, and after we'll visit Asahi Beer brewery.
And in the next day, we will wake up early morning and go to Tomogashima island in Wakayama Prefecture if it's a good weather.

Tomogashima Island is an uninhabited island, where is like a very mysterious castle in the heaven that you can watch the "castle in the sky".
It used to be used one of fortresses to guard the Osaka Gulf from the Meiji period to the end of the wars and the old Japanese base.
After the end of the war, big guns were broken down, but there are still tracks of guns, scars of bombs and the place to stock bombs.

When I talked to my friend, he told he had an interest in there very much. And basically, my younger sister also feel interested in visiting war scars.

We have visited the Memorial Museum and the Park in Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Okinawa before.
We went to the Chiran Peace Museum for Kamikaze Pilots and she looked at things there very hard.
In Okinawa, we visited and listened to a family having war experiences directly and with tears in our eyes.

And this time is to visit the place where the Japanese army launched bombs, which will make her think about the worldwide peace more.
I think it's the best way to learn about the peace for kids to see photos, letters and scars of wars with their eyes.

So many people do hope the worldwide peace without any war,  but it seems to be difficult... Very ashamed, I think.

この秋にアメリカから友達が大阪に来るので、どこに行こうか計画を立てています。
今度は何が展示されているのか、その当時の歴史的な背景からちゃん説明できるように、準備をしようと今の所は思っています。

何回聞いても、「お任せ」としか返答ないので、友達の趣味や興味あることを考慮しつつ、そしてうちの子も楽しめるように、勝手に計画立てています。

去年の秋は、大阪、奈良、京都と三か所を三日かけて回りました。
大阪では大阪城、黒門市場、あべのハルカス。そしてその晩は居酒屋で絶対口にしないものを一杯食べさせました、笑。

奈良では、東大寺、奈良公園で鹿に襲われた後、静かに陶芸を楽しみました。日本酒を飲むおちょことつまみを入れるお皿を作っていました。

京都では半日で別れたので、金閣寺だけを一緒に行きました。

で、今年は、三日間のうち二日間分だけ、大体決まりました。
初日は大阪で、道頓堀やみなみ、アメ村を見た後、アサヒビールの工場見学に行く予定です。
二日目は、頑張って朝早く起きて、和歌山の友が島に行こうかなって思っています。天気が良ければの話ですが・・・。

友が島は、和歌山県にある無人島で、ジブリ映画の「天空の城ラピュタ」に登場する神秘的な天空の城に似ている所で、明治時代から終戦にかけて大阪湾を防衛する要塞の一つとして、旧日本軍の基地として使われていた場所です。
終戦後は、大砲は壊されたものの、砲台跡や弾薬庫後などがあり、一度は行ってみたかったのです。

友達に話しをすると、興味津々ですごく興味があると言っていました。
そしてうちの末っ子も戦争の爪痕を巡るのは、元々興味を持っていて、今までにも、広島と長崎と沖縄の平和祈念館と公園も、鹿児島にある知覧の特攻平和会館にも行き、展示されている当時の資料を真剣に見ていました。
沖縄では、戦争体験者のお宅にお邪魔させてもらって、当時の悲惨なお話しを直接聞いて、涙が止まりませんでした。

そして今回は、実際に砲弾を打っていた場所を巡ることにより、更に平和について考えてくれると思います。

平和学習って、学校で習うより、出来れば、実際に残された写真や手紙、そして戦争遺跡など自分の目で見ることが、一番の学習方法なのではないかなって思っています。

戦争のない世界にしたいと大多数の人が望んでいるけれど、なかなか無くならないものですね・・・。寂しいな。
