There are some organizations for local children in my region which are managed by their parents.
We say "kodomo-kai" for these organizations, and parents make plans for the growth via sports, study and service.
Parents of the 6th grades children in the "kodomo-kai" are in charge for the management and I am one of them until the end of March this year.
Yesterday was the birthday of my younger daughter's school, and the school was off all day.
We have one of events on the anniversary of establishment every year and let children make something for the Cultural festival in fall. It depends on the staffs what they would make and we selected to make their own chopsticks by themselves.
We borrowed the art and craft room at school and invited a teacher to give them a lecture and teach how to make them.
This event was for children from the 1st to 3rd grade kids and their parents. We enjoyed the teacher's lecture and making chopsticks.
They reuse the wooden bat which has been broken and thrown away by professional baseball.

Taboos of using chopsticks
昨日、次女の小学校の創立記念日で、学校がお休みでした。
毎年、その日に子供会のイベントを入れて、秋の文化展の作品作りの為に、子ども達に何かを作らせます。何を作るかは、その年の役員が決めます。
今年は私はその役員のうちの一人です。
学校の図工室を借りて、講師の先生を呼んで、１～３年生までの子どもたちと一部の保護者の方と一緒に、お箸づくりをしました。
プロ野球などで折れてしまった木製のバットを再利用していて、マイ箸が作れます。
