White Rice
I'd like you to cook Japanese Rice with a pot if possible.
We use a rice cooker, but I wonder there might be people don't have it.
So I will show you how to cook it. This is the recipe who I taught to elementary school students in a cooking practice of home economics there.
We have cooking practices some times a year.
My working school starts to learn how to make Japanese tea and finishes their own packed lunch they want to eat and cook.
Cooking practices depend on each school's teachers. they decide what to teach.
Well, the followings are amounts and directions.
I'd be happy to try it once if you cook.
Amount of Ingredient
1 1/2 U.S. cups rice ( 2 Japanese rice cups )
400-450ml water
How to wash rice
1. Fill a pot with cold water and add rice. Stir it quickly, and pour off the opaque liquid immediately.
2. Press the rice repeatedly 20 to 30 times with the palm to make the rice rub against each other. Fill the pot with fresh water and pour off the opaque water. Repeat this procedure a few times. It'll become clear.
3. Fill the rice with fresh water in a pot and keep it as it is, 30 mins in summer and an hour in winter.
Rice become white when the water goes into rice.
How to cook rice
1. Drain on a sieve and place the rice with the amount of cold water in a pot.
2. Heat the pot with medium heat until the water is boiled.
3. Keep the medium heat for 3 mins, a little lower heat for 2 mins and low heat for 5 mins. 10 mins in total.
If you smell or sound something burned a little, you should turn down to low heat as soon as possible, even if you don't heat medium heat for enough time.
Please check that there seem to be no water in a pot and stop the heat.
4. When it's almost dry, keep the pot with its cover as it is for 10 mins.
Be careful not to overflow the water while cooking.
I advice you to use a deeper and bigger pot than a just sized one.
Good luck
